TikTok tests a shopping feed in its app

TikTok, the leading short-form video platform, is betting on a focused “Shop” tab, allowing users to browse and purchase products from several different categories, such as clothing and electronics. This e-commerce integration emerges as a means to capitalize on this application. So far, it is available in select markets including Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, and the UK.

Located next to the “Following” and “For you” tabs, from the “Buy” tab, users will be offered everything they need to access featured products, search for objects for sale through the search engine and the different supported categories, in addition to being able to track orders placed, messages, the possibility of using discount vouchers and payments.

The coupon page will have the used and unused coupons, along with an invalid coupons tab. In addition, the payment page allows you to manage billing information and add a credit or debit card. On the other hand, this tab has perks like free shipping on select purchases.

This tab includes a search bar along with different shopping categories like beauty, womenswear, electronics, electronics, accessories, bags, kitchen, footwear, baby, office, bedding and more.

According to a TikTok spokesperson in a statement:

We’re always looking for ways to improve our community experience and regularly test new features that inspire creativity, bring joy, and innovate the TikTok experience. The Shop tab is currently being tested in Indonesia.

Also, it serves as a hub for products being sold on the TikTok Shop. TikTok brands have found a creative outlet to connect with audiences authentically. And we’re excited to experiment with new commerce opportunities that allow our community to discover and engage with what they love.

At the moment the date on which the company plans to extend the new tab to other markets is unknown. The objective is to reinforce its bet in the electronic commerce segment, as a platform where users can buy favorite items, and face Facebook and Instagram, where it is already possible to do so.
